Abstract

Introduction: Guided Imagery is a Relaxation Technique that involves visualization to promote calmness and reduce stress. It is increasingly used in healthcare to support mental well-being. Nurses, being at the forefront of patient care, often experience high Job Stress affecting their performance and health. This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of Guided Imagery in reducing Job Stress among the staff nurses in selected hospitals. Methodology: A Quantitative, Quasi-Experimental Non-Randomized Control group design was adopted. The study was conducted on 66 staff nurses (33 in Experimental and 33 in Control groups) selected through Non-Probability Purposive sampling. Stress levels were assessed using the Modified Expanded Nurses Stress Scale (Modified ENSS). Results: Most participants were aged 31–40 years and married. In the experimental group, the mean stress score significantly decreased from 125.85 (SD = 29.87) to 79.94 (SD = 24.49) after the Guided Imagery intervention (t = 11.220, p < 0.001). In contrast, the Control group showed a slight, non-significant increase from 136.33 (SD= 33.63) to 138.39 (SD = 27.19) (t = 0.566, p = 0.575). An unpaired t-test showed no significant difference between groups at baseline (t = 1.339, p = 0.185), but a highly significant difference post-intervention (t = 9.178, p < 0.001), confirming the effectiveness of Guided Imagery. Conclusion: Guided Imagery was effective in significantly reducing Job Stress among the staff nurses. It can be a simple and practical intervention to improve mental well-being in clinical settings.
